Lavender Market Report from China

Chinese lavender oil output is expected to reduce significantly this year due to severe weather in the main producing area of Xinjiang province as well as reductions in the cultivated area. As a result, sharp price increase  have been seen in the past few weeks.

Although more support has been given by the Chinese government to the farmers to increase the output of lavender production this year, severe weather that hit Xinjiang province at the beginning of the harvest period in June had caused serious damaged to the crops. Local newspaper reported that this was the worst rainstorm in Northwest China, with frequent hailstones occurring during the harvesting period.

The output of this oil this year is estimated to be slightly above 10 metric tons, a huge reduction from 40 metric tons prediction at beginning of the year. Lavender oil is now being sold at a price almost double the normal price in China market.
